Arbor Day

Friday, April 20, 2012

Hot Springs/Garland County Arbor Day is a celebration of trees! This annual event is held in the spring at Entergy Park.  This educational day is for all Garland County 5th grade students. Pre-registration is required. Students attend presentations from Lake Catherine State Park Interpreters, the City of Hot Springs Urban Forester, Ouachita Job Corps, Smokey Bear and more!

Arbor Day 2011 was held on April 29th. This was a huge success with over 550 students and teachers attending the event. The event was filled with presentations, exhibits, and a fun finale with “Smoky the Bear” during lunch. Each student took home a bare root tree to plant and nourish at home. Each student also received a free forest-related workbook and teachers received a special version with correlations to the Arkansas Curriculum Frameworks. Thanks to generous donations from our sponsors, a free lunch was provided for every student. A Red Oak Commemorative ArboTree Plantingr Day Tree was planted as part of this year’s program. This huge project was a joint venture with many Hot Springs City departments and funded by Entergy Arkansas Inc., Deltic Timber Corporation, with further Arbor Day materials and educational materials provided throughout the year by the Arkansas Community Foundation – Hot Springs Area.
